About Safety

The Roca Blanca Spanish Language School is located in one of the safest and most secure areas of Mexico, well and easily patrolled, virtually free from the drug cartel violence issues that are plaguing the border towns and Mexico’s large cities. For more detailed US State Department information you can go to //www.travel.state.gov/. For reference, we’re located in the State of Oaxaca, some eight hours from the capital city of Oaxaca, in southern Mexico on the Pacific coastline. Of course, we live here, and know how it is first hand. None of our students or visitors have been in danger here.

With the same common sense precautions that you would take traveling anywhere, our coastal area is still the safe place to visit that it has been for many decades, safer than visiting many US and international cities.

It’s easy to forget just how big Mexico is, and how far our location is from the warning areas! Your flight will arrive to Puerto Escondido (PXM) or Huatulco (HUX), these being our nearest international airports. There we meet you inside the airport and drive you here. You’re not within a thousand miles of a border town or hundreds of miles from a city with a warning. We also begin your Spanish course with student orientation, which includes safety tips to avoid any danger that might present itself.

We live here and we raise our children here. You can trust our record of many years of safety for visitors and students.

“Your school does work.  I finally went north of the border today and for a while had trouble reading the signs.  They were in English but I was trying to read them as Spanish…they did not translate very well.  Now I find I am reading English a lot slower.  And I am understanding so much more of what people are saying…I’m spotting verb tenses left and right!  This is amazing.  I had no idea what it would do to my clarity of communication.  I am miles ahead of where I was.”
