It’s been quite a season of unexpected illness and accidents, and a lot of sleepless nights.<\/p>\n

We had the opportunity to join Laura for a couple of home visits in a nearby village. Here she is caring for an elderly woman who had slipped into a coma. Ben acted as a temporary IV pole until the bag could be strung up.<\/p>\n

Once a year after the rains begin, a large species of ant called chicatanas come out of the ground in swarms. They are a great delicacy and taste like nuts when roasted! It’s a party atmosphere when they come out – the whole town goes out and gathers. Here one of our neighbors catches as many as she can in a net.<\/p>\n

Hannah has planted several jackfruit trees (in pots until we get our own land) and should have a harvest in a couple of years!<\/p>\n

Even though the epicenter was hours from us, we had a good shaking at home. We ran outside and waited while listening to things crashing and breaking inside.<\/p>\n

We received emergency stay visas due to Covid limiting travel. Here Hannah is trying to figure out the associated car paperwork outside of the airport. Things were dicey for a few minutes, as we discovered they technically could have taken the car! Thank God the officer didn’t.<\/p>\n
