April 2020 – Wildlife Edition!
With quarantine keeping our days more and more like the movie “Groundhog Day”, where Bill Murray’s character relives the same day over and over, we thought we’d share some of the fun – and maybe not so fun – animal sightings that we’ve had in our short time in Cacalote. We so wish we could share all the sights and sounds with you all, but this will have to do for now!
Ben went out lagoon fishing with our neighbors Manuel and Elias
Roca Blanca keep cattle to sell and help support the ongoing ministry. We just learned that the leadership has offered to donate a cow to the town in these tough times. It will feed much of the community!
Tina, our new kitten
This baby croc was a surprise catch out of the lagoon!
Sage went on a fishing trip with Grandpa and a local crew, and came back with this beauty!
Found at the bottom of the girls’ toy bin. Quickly squashed.
I feel like we’ve seen this guy before somewhere…
Manuel caught a bumper crop of sardines one day. The kids helped with cleaning all the fish, and we got a pail of fish out of the deal! They are very generous people.
We see handsome fellows like this all the time. Isn’t he stately?
“Mommy, pleeeease I just want him to play with me in my room!”
Everyone got a turn with it before we said goodbye.
The kids also got to participate in a crab hunt
Found this guy in our shower one morning. That’ll wake you up!
…oh yeah that’s who it is.
Wonderful to see you all! Great pictures. May the Lord continue to bless and keep you.
Thank you Dave!
It’s great to see all your smiling faces! It looks and sounds so wonderful there. The people and community are so drawing… but I’d scream and cry if I ever saw a spider like that. We love you guys.
There really is a great sense of community here. We’ve been sincerely welcomed by almost everyone. When you come we’ll try to keep the spiders at bay! Although I think we might get some sick sense of pleasure seeing you scream and cry! Ha! Love you both.
Fun pictures!! Nice fish, Sage!! Oh my, the croc and the SPIDER would do me in!!! Lovely last photo!! Love you guys!
Blessings,
Sue
Love you too Sue! First croc we’ve seen in 4 months, so… no biggie? 😀
I’d liked to start receiving your newsletter. I hope all is well with you all.
Will do! Hope you’re well too.
Love these photo’s. But you will absolutely have to keep the spiders and scorpions out of the house when I visit. In replacement, and so you don’t feel so lonely by the loss of your creepy friends, we can invite geckos and iguanas in your home. I also never knew you had a famous family member. I am surprised it took this long for me to find out I know a celebrity ;). Love you guys and praying as well.
oops, meant to post a separate post. did not realize I was replying… lol.
We’ll do our best to rid the area of their presence! But the celebrity stays. Can’t get rid of him. 😉
That red fish looks like the kind I used to eat in Hawaii ..great pictures of all the fun things you still able to do! God bless you all! We at Westside get to have drive in church cant give hugs but glad we can gather together to worship the Lord and hear his word.
Yes, we feasted on the fish! Thanks for commenting. We’ve been following along with some of Pastor Jerry’s online encouragements when possible. So good to meet “together” as you can! Blessings to you.
What a great place to raise a bunch of curious kids!
Sure is!
Hi all, Nice pics good to see everyone enjoying their time with the critters! Love you. Aunt Ruth & Uncle Joe.
Thanks! The kids love the wildlife for sure.
Love seeing all these pics!! What an adventure. Looks like the kids are loving it. ? Thank you for sharing. Miss you and my annual visits to MN. ? Prayers and much love from Mom and Grandma ❤️❤️❤️
We love and miss you too!
I love how adventurous you all have been lately!
Adventure seems to find us!
God keep you safe from all creatures not intended for human companionship!! Yeesh – scorpions in the toy basket and spiders in the shower!!! Where’s the “noooooo” emoji??
That said, isn’t it wonderful to learn about all these previously unknown critters?
Marnie you always make me laugh! Yeah not a fan of the scorpions (one of a few we’ve found), but the tarantulas aren’t so bad. Very docile actually. And yes, lots to discover! Sage and Grandpa have a snake trap out. They’re hoping for a good one.
Thanks for sharing these animal sightings and giving us a sense of what you’re encountering there. Always a joy to see photos of your kids and loved seeing the smiles of Ben and Hannah again in the last picture. Love you guys!
Thanks Maura! The tropics come with lots of creatures for sure. The kids fit right in. 😉
Thanks for the update! Praying for Ben, Hannah, Wesley, Sage, Cooper, and Nora.
Jerry and Ethel Gill
Pastor Jerry and Ethel, thank you for praying! We’ve been thinking about you guys lately. Recently found our $2 bills and felt your love and friendship all over again. Hope you’re doing well.
These are so neat! I’m grateful for you guys and the desire you have to pursue the Lord in all He is calling you to there! He is with you, He is with those in your community, and He is doing AWESOME things! Keeping you in prayer–especially from those spiders! Haha
Thanks so much for the encouragement! We for sure have felt really tangible grace and strengthening in all the challenges. We pray it’s the same with you!
